Joe Pavia Jr. captured the 2009 dash winning driver's title at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs with 251 wins during the meet. Even though the meet was going very well right from the start for Joe, he still trailed the red hot Jim Morrill Jr. through the first 6 months of the meet but when Jim went on the road to drive in many of his stake engagements, Pavia was able to keep at his daily task and take the lead in the late stages of the season. Along with his 251 wins, Joe drove his mounts to $2,657,271 in earnings.

The Pavia racing stable had a steady year and was able to earn over $1,000,000 dollars in purses for the 2nd straight year. Leading the way for the stable was Billie Bluechip who earned over $227,000 and who won the $200,000 Pa. sire stake final at Pocono Downs, which made her the Pennsylvania 3 year old filly champion. Also having a solid year was 12 time winner Esmeralda Semalu who set a track record at Pompano Park in 149:4 and earned over $120,000.

Joe had a career year in earning in 2009 topping the 3 Million dollar mark for the first time in his career to go along with his 328 wins.
